Wildfire Preparedness Home Assessments
Who is the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County?
The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County is a non-profit organization that works to reduce wildfire risk and impact through collaboration, education, and community involvement. It serves as a regional hub supporting local Fire Safe Councils and wildfire preparedness programs by helping communities, develop community wildfire protection plans, coordinate defensible space and home hardening projects, organize chipping and fuel reduction events, connect with San Miguel Fire & Rescue and emergency partners.
What is a Home Assessment?
A home assessment is a review of the vulnerability of a home and landscape to wildfire and ember ignition. During this assessment, a Fire Safe Council staff member will review defensible space and home hardening principles and make specific recommendations for improvements based on the current condition of your property.
Evaluations are performed by trained staff members and take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete. Our recommendations are based on local fire agency ordinances, but we are non-regulatory, and none of the recommendations are required for you to make. Upon completion of the assessment, you will receive recommendations, educational resources, and program referrals that can help you meet your wildfire resilience goals. Assessments and outcomes are completely confidential.
